1st summer school 'Biotech in Brussels' was success
The first edition of Summer School 'BIOTECH in Brussels: where Biology meets Technology' (25 - 29 July 2016) was a success. The summer school was co-organised by the VUB's Department of Bio-engineering Sciences and the International Relations and Mobility Office. The participants, who came from Europe and China, were very motivated and eager for more knowledge and they went home with many new insights.
During the Summer School, lectures were combined with hands-on workshops, guided by experienced researchers in the state-of-the-art laboratories of the research groups Structural Biology Brussels, Microbiology, Cellular and Molecular Immunology and Plant Genetics.
In addition, the participants also enjoyed the joie de vivre in Brussels and witnessed firsthand how knowledge can be applied when visiting the brewery Cantillon and the Vlaams Insitituut voor Biotechnologie (VIB), near Ghent.
Participant Mariana Cunha (Portugal): What and if. Two simple words that have so much power. What if I didn't come to this summer course? What if I didn't fit in? What if things wouldn't go well? So many questions crossed my mind before I came to VUB, but when this incredible week started they were all gone. I learned how the smallest thing can have the most impact on human lives. I learned what it is like to work with passion. Thank you VUB for giving me the opportunity to meet so many inspiring professors and to make new friends. This week has been one of the best weeks of my life.
