Title: Higher extensions of monoids and categorical Galois theory

Abstract: In this expository talk I would like to tell about my current project joint with Andrea Montoli and Tim Van der Linden, which is a part of a larger program devoted to the study of non-abelian foundations of cohomology.

The project is concerned with higher central extensions of monoids where the centrality is understood in the sense of categorical Galois theory with respect to the adjunction between the category of groups and the category of monoids. The category of monoids is of special interest as it is not even semi-abelian and the resulting higher central extensions are quite different from those studied before.

In the beginning I will recall necessary definitions from the category Theory and give a brief introduction into the categorical Galois theory.
