This website lists internship offers that the Computer Science Department received for the current year. It is the responsibility of the student to find a company in which to do an internship (to contact people in the list below). Internships at companies not listed here are allowed and encouraged, see below on how to do it.
Official details about this course are available in its fiche
How to apply for an internship?
- Contact someone at the company of your choice and get their okay. They may ask you for a CV and review your application.
- Once the company wants you to do an internship with them, send an email to denis.steckelmacher@vub.be with the name of the company and description of the internship, to get confirmation that everything is good
- Fill the Internship Agreement available on this page (may require a VUB login). Because that Sharepoint is often offline or not working, here are direct links to the English agreement for an internship as part of a course and outside of a course. Have it signed by the contact person at the company.
- Send the signed internship agreement to Denis.Steckelmacher@vub.be to be registered to the Internship course
- Complete the form that informs the VUB that you will have "external education". The "Internship Computer Science", "Stage Toegepaste Informatica" is a VUB course, its catalog number is 4016125ENR, it is 6 ECTS, the titularis is Denis Steckelmacher, and you will have received a proof of approval after Step 2 above.
- You can now do the internship
- At the end of the internship, have the company fill the evaluation form.
When to do internships?
Internships can be done at any point during your Master. Usually, it happens during the holidays between MA1 and MA2, so that it does not conflict with courses. But you are free to participate in your internship whenever you want.
Internships usually last for about 2 months, but can be shorter (the absolute minimum is 18 full-time working days). Note that at the end of your internship, you will have to write an internship report and submit it to denis.steckelmacher@vub.be. Shortly after, a quick defense of your internship will be organized, which will lead to the grade you will have for your Internship course. Because that defense has to happen before the end of an exam period, make sure that you submit your internship report before the end of July of your MA2, so that the defense can be organized before you finish your master.
