Een Belgisch-Frans team van paleontologen heeft een nieuwe dinosaurussoort ontdekt en opgegraven in de Provence. Wat deze dinosaurus zo bijzonder maakt is dat de tanden net als scharen functioneren. Koen Stein, postdoctoraal onderzoeker aan de VUB, is gespecialiseerd in weefselonderzoek bij fossielen en merkte meteen op dat deze tanden bijzonder groot zijn. “Uit nader onderzoek bleek dat de tanden veel groeilijnen vertonen, wat er op wijst dat ze bij het leven van het dier bleven groeien en dus minder snel versleten”, zegt Stein.
