Title: On plactic monoids and their algebras

Abstract: In this talk I will try to tell you about origins of plactic monoids. Then I will focus on ring-theoretical properties and representations of corresponding monoid algebras, the so-called plactic algebras, as well as consequences of obtained results for combinatorics of plactic monoids. The talk will be based on joint papers with Ferran Cedó and Jan Okninski.
