In a recent edition of C&EN Supplement, the top ten papers in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)/mass spectrometry (MS) from Analytical Chemistry and Journal of Proteome Research were provided. A review article published only 4 months ago by PhD student Jelle De Vos, Prof. Broeckhoven, andPprof. Eeltink from the Department of Chemical Engineering is currently ranked as one of the most-read papers over the past 12 months.

Their contribution entitled “Advances in ultrahigh-pressure liquid chromatography technology and system design” discusses fundamental and practical aspects of ultra-high-pressure liquid chromatography. The review provides insights on advances in system design addressing tubing configuration, pump and injector technology, oven configuration, and detection including MS interfacing. In this context, selected key applications demonstrating the potential of UHPLC technology for one- and multi-dimensional LC separations are highlighted.
