Micro-CT-scanner
Multicellular organisms show high levels of complexity, which change during their lifetime and over evolutionary time. All biological structures are built up from or by cells and biological functions follow from the variety of cells types. 3D-Insight at high resolution is critical in understanding ontogenesis, function and the state of biological structures.
Difficulties in obtaining high quality 3D models are therefore limiting in research progress. Available techniques are either insufficient in resolution, or destructive, or both. The use of a micro-CT-scanner for spatial visualisation of internal structures with small dimensions brings insight in a variety of structure/function problems, from wood vessels and water transport to lizards and their movements.
