Algebras, Geometries, and Groups, A conference in memory of Jacques Tits. December 20-21 2022.

With great sadness we received the news in December last year that Jacques Tits passed away.

To honour one of the most influential mathematicians from Belgium, a conference is organized in his memory, in collaboration with Belgian Mathematical Society.

The event "Algebras, Geometries, and Groups" will take place on December 20 and 21, in the Royal Academy of Belgium, Rue Ducale 1 in Bruxelles.

Attendance is open to everyone, but registration is compulsory.

Attendance is free for PhD students and 30 EUR per person per day for non-PhD students for registrations before October 15. From October 16 onwards, attendance is 30 EUR per day for PhD students and 50 EUR per person per day for non-PhD students. The registration fee covers lunches and coffee breaks.

Michel Van den Bergh, research director van het FWO (Fonds voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek Vlaanderen), verbonden aan de Universiteit Hasselt en de Vrije Universiteit Brussel, is een van de plenaire speakers van het volgende International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM). De vierjaarlijks hoogmis van de wiskunde is voor zijn deelnemers even belangrijk als de Olympische Spelen voor topsporters. Van den Bergh is nog maar de zevende Belgische spreker die het woord mag richten tot de plenaire zitting van het congres, dat voor de eerste keer in 1897 plaatsvond.
