An international team of scientists amongst whom Jan Steyaert and Toon Laeremans (VIB/Vrije Universiteit Brussel) have unraveled the structural basis for mORactivation. In two Nature papers, they report on the X-ray and NMR structures of the agonist-bound mOR receptor, stabilized in its fully activated state by use of a G protein mimetic camelid antibody fragment.

Een nieuw biotech bedrijf werd opgericht: Confo Therapeutics, een spin-off van VIB en de Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Een sterk syndicaat  geleid door Capricorn Health-Tech Fund, en met Qbic en SOFI investeren in een eerste closing van €3 Mio. Deze middelen zullen worden ingezet om het innovatieve CONFO® technologieplatform verder te ontwikkelen en om nieuwe geneesmiddelen te ontwikkelen.
