Ijslands grootste vulkaan staat op uitbarsten, en dat zou volgens een lokale expert tot "een grote ramp" kunnen leiden. “De aswolk die bij de uitbarsting van de Hekla vrijkomt, zou het vliegverkeer in Europa danig in de war kunnen sturen”, klinkt het. Net als bij de eruptie van de Eyjafjallajökull in 2010? “Zo’n vaart zal het waarschijnlijk niet lopen”, zegt vulkanoloog Sam Poppe (VUB). “Toen zat de wind toevallig heel slecht.”
