Tan Lu and Ann Dooms from the DIMA research group officially won the ICDAR Competition on Recognition of Documents with Complex Layouts: https://www.primaresearch.org/RDCL2017/continuous?fbclid=IwAR2OSNwykDa1l...

The algorithm blindly detects text and other types of content in document scans with very high accuracy by relying on a probabilistic framework to quantify "text homogeneity”.
