Einstein Telescoop wordt prioriteit voor Europa!

Op 30 juni 2021 heeft het European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures bekend gemaakt dat het Einstein Telescoop project deel gaat uitmaken van een kort lijstje van prioritair te realiseren projecten binnen Europa: https://www.esfri.eu/latest-esfri-news/new-ris-roadmap-2021 . Ons land ligt samen met Italië, Nederland, Spanje en Polen aan de basis van het Einstein Telescoop project en ondersteunde mee haar kandidatuur in het ESFRI selectie proces. Ons land zal een trekkende rol blijven spelen en investeert nu al in tal van voorbereidende R&D trajecten.

Michel Van den Bergh, research director van het FWO (Fonds voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek Vlaanderen), verbonden aan de Universiteit Hasselt en de Vrije Universiteit Brussel, is een van de plenaire speakers van het volgende International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM). De vierjaarlijks hoogmis van de wiskunde is voor zijn deelnemers even belangrijk als de Olympische Spelen voor topsporters. Van den Bergh is nog maar de zevende Belgische spreker die het woord mag richten tot de plenaire zitting van het congres, dat voor de eerste keer in 1897 plaatsvond.
